I want to perform at my best each and every day. I’m not always great at this, so I’m always looking for ways to improve. Getting my afternoons in better order was one of the improvements on my agenda, and these gummies came out at just the right time.
This is not my first time using a product from EarlyBird. I have written here about the EarlyBird Morning cocktail that my wife and I love. Because I loved their morning drink so much, I had high hopes and expectations going into this test with their new afternoon gummies.
For the past few years, partly thanks to the EarlyBird Morning Cocktail, I have been waking up early consistently to tackle the day. The ongoing problem I was having was the afternoon crash each day—the time after lunch when you feel like taking a long nap instead of accomplishing more goals.
The 28-Day Experiment
28 days ago, I set out with these gummies to take them consistently each day just before the time I typically crash to see if there were any noticeable effects. I am happy to say that, yes, the EarlyBird Happy Hour gummies helped curb this crash. While the results didn’t happen as quickly as I was initially expecting, the gummies accomplished the goal nonetheless, and there are a few reasons why. Here’s what I found out.
What are the Happy Hour Gummies?
EarlyBird started out as a company making a powdered drink to help people wake up faster, easier, and with much less brain fog than usual. After selling over 1 million bottles, a common problem they heard from customers was that they wanted a solution for the afternoon “hangover”.
Instead of carrying around powder to mix for a drink at work or on the go, why not pack the necessary ingredients into a gummy form and make it easier (and tastier) to consume on the go? That is what they did with the EarlyBird Gummies.
My 28-Day Challenge & Results
I came into this experiment skeptical. Although I’ve had a great experience with this company in the past, taking a few gummies to help cure the dreaded afternoon crash sounded a little too easy.
Day 1
The first day was easy. Mainly due to the fact that I was already planning to adjust my plans a little based on the new routine of eating the gummies and resuming my work instead of taking my more common afternoon snooze (problems of working from home…).
I didn’t feel tired at all the first day, making me wonder if it was actually the gummies working that well, or if it was just by chance.
Day 2-5
The next few days became a little more difficult. Not nearly as bad as usual, but certainly more than the first day. It had me wondering if the first day was more of a placebo effect.
Either way, during this 4-day stretch, I kept my game plan, consumed the gummies, and went straight back into my planned to-do list.
Days 6-10
This is when things started to get easier. There are two things I attribute this to. The first is that I increased the dosage. I went from 2 to 3 gummies and even tried 4 (above their recommended dosage).
The second thing I attribute this to is simply the act of getting into a routine that the body becomes accustomed to. Just like waking up at a new time in the morning is extremely difficult, once you do it 5-6 days without missing, your body starts anticipating it.
Days 11-28
Big just in time, but these days really blended together because a new habit had formed. After a solid 10 days of supplementing with the gummies and sticking to my new afternoon schedule (that excluded the typical nap), it started to feel normal to work straight through.

Results
I had tried and failed a few times in the past at really nailing down a good afternoon routine to keep my energy up to remain more efficient. Some of this was due to a lack of trying and planning, but some of it had to do with the lack of energy that happens each day after working all morning.
What I took from this 28 Day test was this: Commit to changing your routine for a set period of time, regardless of how you feel each day, then take actions to make achieving that goal easier. AKA Take the gummies.
The gummies weren’t a miracle pill to solve all my problems, but they certainly did help me pull through the difficult phase much easier. There are a few main ingredients that help with this that we’ll cover below, but ultimately, these gummies helped me achieve the desired outcome I wanted.
Main Ingredient Breakdown + My Rating of Each
I’ve been in marketing my whole career, and because of it, I am very skeptical of “marketing claims” for supplement products. Too many things are masked with fancy terms that actually mean very little, or have no data supporting it.
Below I’ll outline the main ingredients in these gummies (there aren’t many), and then I’ll show you relevant peer-reviewed scientific journal studies showing the lab results that ingredients in various trials to see how well these ingredients really stack up from both a dosage and purpose standpoint.
COFFEEBERRY – 50MG
COFFEEBERRY is something you’ve likely never heard of before (I hadn’t). It’s marketed as a clean form of plant-based caffeine. It comes from a coffee tree, but these fruits are discarded in the typical coffee-making process where just the “seeds” of these fruits (coffee beans) are kept. So coffee berry is just the fruit that surrounds coffee beans on the plant.
Recently the Coffee Berry has reemerged as a better and cleaner form of caffeine to be included and drinks and supplements like the Kamakazi Gummies.
While Coffee Berry is not comprised of 100% caffeine, once it is refined for supplemental use, it ends up at nearly 100% caffeine. So 50MG of this is roughly equivalent to 50MG of straight caffeine. For reference, a typical cup of coffee contains about 80MG of caffeine.
If you take three gummies as I did, you’d be getting 75MG of caffeine which more closely resembles of a cup of coffee.
Caffeine is one of the most researched and studied ingredients in the world and likely needs no explanation of its benefits. Improved energy, focus, and improved brain function. There is a reason caffeine is so popular.
Indegrient and Dosage Rating – 10/10
This is a perfect dosage for an afternoon pick-me-up. Aided by the other ingredients below, 50-75MG of caffeine, which is ingested in gummy form nearly instantly, is an excellent dosage. One note that many are not aware of is that pure caffeine is EXTREMELY bitter.
There is a reason that the majority of caffeinated beverages have loads of sugar or artificial sweetener. It is to mask the bitterness. This is much harder to do in gummy form when there are fewer ingredients to work with to outweigh the bitter flavor.
I was pleasantly surprised by how well they formulated these gummies to hide that flavor. While you can still certainly taste the slightly bitter aftertaste from the caffeine, it was not nearly as bad as caffeinated gum or gummies I’ve had in the past. So great work to the Earlybird team for that!
L-THEANINE – 25MG
L-theanine is an amino acid found naturally in tea leaves, particularly in green tea. It has been shown to have a calming effect on the mind and promote relaxation without drowsiness. Studies have suggested that L-theanine may help reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep quality, and enhance cognitive performance. Some research has also suggested that L-theanine may have a positive impact on heart health by reducing blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
Regarding the dosage, L-theanine supplement usually comes in 50-200mg per serving and it is commonly recommended to take 100mg -200mg per day for best results. While 25mg is a smaller dose, it may still have some benefits, but it may be less effective than a higher dose.
HUPERZINE A – 100MCG
Huperzine A is a natural compound that is extracted from the Chinese club moss Huperzia serrata. It is an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, which means it helps to increase levels of acetylcholine in the brain. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that is important for memory, learning and cognitive function.
Research has suggested that Huperzine A may help improve memory and cognitive function in people with Alzheimer’s disease, age-related memory loss, and other cognitive impairments. It may also have potential benefits for treating other conditions such as depression, anxiety and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The recommended dosage of Huperzine A is typically between 50-200mcg per day. 100mcg is considered as a lower dose, it may still have some benefits but it may be less effective than a higher dose.
VITAMIN B6 – .25MG
Vitamin B6, also known as pyridoxine, is an essential nutrient that plays a critical role in many bodily functions. It is involved in the metabolism of proteins and red blood cells, the formation of neurotransmitters, and the regulation of hormones. It is also important for the immune system and the development of the brain and nervous system.
Adequate intake of vitamin B6 is important for maintaining good health, and deficiency can lead to a range of symptoms such as anemia, skin disorders, and neurological problems. The recommended daily intake of vitamin B6 varies depending on age and gender, but generally ranges from 1.3 to 2.0 mg. Therefore, a dose of .25mg of Vitamin B6 is considered low and might not be enough to see significant results.
VITAMIN B12 – 25MCG
Vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, is an essential nutrient that plays a critical role in many bodily functions. It is required for the proper formation of red blood cells, the proper functioning of the nervous system, DNA synthesis, and the production of the neurotransmitter, methylcobalamin. It is also important for maintaining a healthy immune system, and for the metabolism of folate.
Adequate intake of vitamin B12 is important for maintaining good health, and deficiency can lead to a range of symptoms such as anemia, fatigue, nerve damage, and cognitive decline. The recommended daily intake of vitamin B12 varies depending on age and gender, but generally ranges from 2.4 mcg to 2.8 mcg. Therefore, a dose of 25mcg of Vitamin B12 is considered a high dose, and is likely enough to see significant results.

Flavor
Beryy Kamikaze
Berry Kamikaze…with a flavor name like that, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I liked the name. Traditionally a Kamikaze cocktail is made with two ounces of vodka and mixed with lime juice and orange liqueur and taken as a shot. The drink packs a punch and is taken as a shot, much like these afternoon gummies! So the name is creative and fitting.
As for the flavor, I was pleasantly surprised. I did not have high hopes for the flavor just considering the amount of caffeine in these gummies. As mentioned above, I know from previous experience that caffeine is extremely bitter and hard to mask the flavor of, especially when we are talking about tiny gummies.
Somehow the Club EarlyBird team pulled it off, though. While there are hints of the bitter caffeine aftertaste, it is subtle and the berry kamikaze flavor overpowers it in the best way. I gave some to my wife, and she enjoyed them just as much.
I’ll leave this section by saying they taste good enough that I am always tempted to take a handful more. Granted, I don’t, but I want to. The most I have taken at one time is 4. The recommended dose is 2-3. Given the ingredients above, taking more than that wouldn’t have any significant negative effects necessarily; just an increase in the caffeine content is what would likely be noticed.
Tangerine Shooter (new)
The newest EarlyBird gummy flavor is called Tangerine Shooter and it is my new favorite! I still love the original flavor, but something is uniquely refreshing about the tangerine flavor.
It has a strong citrus after taste while not over powering. I personally love citrus flavors so this is a bonus for me. They have the same ingredient break down as the original gummies, so the results are the same with just a new spin on the flavor.
If you tried the originals and weren't satisfied with the flavor, 100% give this flavor a try while it's still available. Once these sell out, I hope they restock them in the near future for another release!
Pricing
Finally, let’s talk pricing. What does an afternoon pick-me-up cost these days? The Berry Kamikaze Gummies are sold in a three-pack with an added pill capsule for more accessible transport. The capsule is made well, actually, and can be attached to a key ring. Making it perfect for those that work away from home to throw a few gummies in and take it to work without the need to carry along the whole bottle.
The three-pack + capsule is sold for $98. Each bottle has 60 gummies for a total of 180 gummies. Basically, we are at $0.55/per gummy. Or, if you take a dose like me, $1.66 per afternoon serving. For gummies, this isn’t as cheap as you’d probably expect.
These gummies have a very different ingredient list and purpose than typical “gummies.” They serve a purpose, and it has to be up to you whether you think the results from taking these consistently is worth the cost. What is the improvement of energy and productivity worth for you?
I enjoyed my 28-day test with these gummies, and as explained at the beginning, I think they served their purpose. I, however, stopped taking them daily after the trial. I kept up my new routine they helped me to create, and now I take them when I am needing a little extra pick-me-up throughout the week (currently 2-3 days a week, I probably take them). I think they are perfect for this.
