Playing the Game
Reading time: 3 – 4 minutes
To say playing the game is hard for me is a understatement. Since I know both sides of the coin now it took me 5 gigs to finally calm down to play it. Like I said in the I apologize podcast once you know what the game is about then you have to then learn to act like you don’t see what the devil is doing. If you grew up like me then you hate this whole enjoy working while I get all the pay ass angle. You have to be disciplined to concentrate on what you’re there for and that’s it. I have lost focus plenty of times but now I think I got the shit downpacked and am ready to make a run on the plantation.
Whenever I get a gig it’s usually for a good chunk of money. Since the plantation likes to try to give 10 cents on the dollar when I get more than that most slaves feel the need to challenge me to prove I deserve it. Now the plantation knows I deserve it as they wouldn’t give it to me but since slaves want to know where I come from and exactly how I got there I usually go through a 30 day period of questions. Bitches that don’t have the knack usually try very hard to prove I’m not that good and the plantation made a mistake. Since the owner wants to see it for theirselves they don’t mind the Head Slave In Charge trying me.
Now I usually know more than them so it doesn’t take long. But, when I first got back to consulting as you have been reading I’m in for a month or two and then out of there. But, now I finally got the right mix of bullshit and believablity to maneuver properly. So with that being said I thought I’d share them with you.
- Say you don’t drink – This will stop people from asking you to hang out with them after work and they will think you are disciplined.
- Hobby Weight Lifting – Since most folks have hobbies they see on TV weight lifting usually requires too much effort for people who’d rather ride a bike.
- Say you have bad knees – If you’re a Man and bigger than most they will ask you did you play sports.. of course you did but you don’t want to play some homothug games with them so bad knees cover that.
- Bring a lunch – Lunch usually implies you are on a diet or on a budget but either way you won’t be going with them to Olive Garden.
Now this will give you the much needed room to just make money and go home. From all of the restrictions you place on yourself most slaves will start to think you are a deeply religious person or a very disciplined person. Either way none of those traits are bad and will be respected in the long run. It’ll also make people think you aren’t bullshitting.
But, again these are temporary tactics as you take what you need from the plantation to build your own. Enjoy!

Hey Freeman, What field of consulting are you into?
I consult in international trade. I know that’s general but that’s as far as I would like to give out information that doesn’t pertain to the R&G.
i had this punk ass, fat ass manager at this bullshit job a few years ago. he was one of those passive aggressive bitches. he liked to talk shit, but played it off in a joking manner. he was inept at his job, but tried to give advice like he was a master to the game. he would criticize and embarrass you in front of everyone. It took all of me not to kick his ass, that’s a game i’m not built for.
Bruh you’re built for it. It’s just that was the only game you had and so you were stuck to obeying their rules. Once you can take your skills and make money off of them then you know you are there for a couple of months. Either way it’s up to you when you had enough.
I like the freedom as I don’t have to be under anyone and my deal is a contract. So if the contract is done then I move on. That’s why on the R&G sometimes I am here and sometimes I am gone some place else. But, like I said I really enjoy the freedom.
You just have to get the right skills and you’ll never be like the slaves on the plantation. You are just passing through.
I know how the game works, but what about when it backfires?
My plantation Im being promoted to assistant manager in two months. My thing is I really didn’t want the bs title and pay with the outrages hours. My whole mentality is to work do what I gotta do and hit the ground running when its time for me to go. NO Hi and bye just go right? lol
So in the same breath my side hustle is picking up more clients for me, mostly friends who are artist, insurance agents, and I got one coffee shop thats paying me. Now that the job all of a sudden is adding these outrages hours I lose out in getting the products to my clients. I feel since most of my clients are in the area and my job is a two hour bus ride downtown Atlanta, I figured my opportunity cost would be pilling up by now. Is it some times good to jump ship? I feel with the job I have I would get complacent and not want to challenge myself
You’re at the crossroads with your hustle. It’s alright bruh to tell them you’d rather not have the promotion because you are going to school, have responsibilities after work and the like. Shit, you can tell them that right now and they’ll probably give you the money and the promotion but let you relax on the crazy hours.
If they give the opportunity to someone else I say let them. You don’t want the job hours mess up the empire building hours. So if you can keep the hours that allowed you to build I say you talk to someone about that.
If they promoted you then they know you can do the job. You just have to speak up and they’ll make the adjustments. In the meantime just see if you can do both with the money and the hours. You might be able to swing it as you never know what you can carry until you actually carry it.
I take this with all the respect for my life in the years to come. Preparation for my children and myself, although i dont have any, i just want to make the best moves for when i get to that time and i can look back and know we are safe.
I got what your saying man. Gotta handle everything Professionally and Strategically.
@Nile – If you do it for yourself and you do it the way you want to then they’ll be plenty leftover for those who come after you.
You don’t have to sacrifice you just have to stay on your mission. That’s the only reason why we play the game.
@Kozi – Exactly! You just passing through homie as that ain’t your future and won’t even be your present if you find a way to make more money. So take it as it come and leave it where it is.
