Face Towel Hustle
Reading time: 2 – 3 minutes
I was on 89th and Dan Ryan eating at Harolds and I saw these cats hustling Face Towels. Now for my folks who don’t live in humid places this shit is shocking just like it was to me. But, when I was living in Baltimore, Philly and New York a lot of cats kept cool by having a wet/moist face towel on their head. It cooled them down and wiped the sweat from their face. Now I knew the need for them but I never saw anyone actually selling them until this past weekend. Then I thought to myself GENUIS!
Basically the cats are selling a bundle of face towels in the middle of the street with a water in the other hand. The reasoning behind it is most people (especially women) do not want you to ruin their good towels wiping your face. So they would rather buy them from a cat on the street in a bundle and give them to their kids. Most of the towels are throwaways after a certain amount of use anyway. So the price is affordable and it solves a problem of needing to cool down.
Setup:
- Buy the face towels (high quality) for 3.50 to 4 bucks wholesale for 6. Or you can probably find cheaper quality towels 12 for 4.50!
- Sell 6 to a bundle for 5 bucks in the middle of the street..
- Set the price at 5 bucks a bundle as that’s the going rate.
- Have the towels in one hand and bottled water in the other as a package deal.
Parlay:
- Change the colors of the towels offered to reflect seasons and holidays.
- When I saw it all I thought about was wetting them, rolling them up and selling them ice cold
- Keep the rolled face towels in a small cooler you carry on your back.
- Hand them a cold one along with a water and you have the perfect humidity beating angle.
BottomLine: It’s just another simple addition to the Water Hustle that could be beneficial when you’re on the street trying to keep that cash flowing.

Cant believe I never saw the hustle in this especially since I keep a face towel on me this time of year.
Its been plenty of times Im out and realized I forgot my face towel or while running the streets I lose them all the time from it falling out my back pocket or off my lap when I get up.
Rushed out this morning on my way to class and forgot mine. Got to poli sci and felt like I was in a sauna.
Whoever does decide to pick up this hustle you might also want to consider hustling these outside the club if you can. We all know how hot the club gets in the summer especially when you start drinking.
Yeah, this was a obvious hustle for sure. When I saw the cats in Chicago doing it I sat there thinking it’s always something simple and essential.
The club is a good spot cuz it’s usually humid inside. I’m just thinking to add this to the water hustle would be a cool down combo. It would definitely sell.
This one’s completely foreign to me but if you say it’s heavy in the streets then it must be. Do you sell the entire bundle to one customer or peel one off the pack for them? Do you douse the face towel before handing it to them or let them do it themselves?
On my FreeMan tour so far this summer I’ve only been to Chicago and Miami so I don’t know if it’s every where.
The cats I saw on the street were selling a small bundle. Might be 3 to 5. I don’t know the pricing as of yet but I will update the post and Quick Hustles with the information.
The Parlay part is me saying it would be a extra perk to roll them up, make them damp and keep them frozen. That way cat’s can get a cool wipe down.
The cats on the street were selling them like you see them in Target. So it wasn’t any extra added on to it.
Yeah i’m from Chicago, and you always see cats wearing towels over their shoulders. That is genius
It’s simple to execute and you can see the obvious use of the product. To me it’s a no brainer in Chicago! Now it’s just a matter of cats moving on the hustle and having enough heart to execute it!
I am ChiTown born and raised so I saw this type of hustle all my life. The selling of towels, bottled water, tube socks, incense, etc., is a daily occurrence at any given intersection.
When I was in high school, they used to sell a “five dollar wallet with a phone book in it” on the el. I wish i could relay the cadence to you. It’s so Chicago. LOL
I’ll be home next week, and while I am there rest assured I will be stopping at that very same Harold’s Chicken to get my gizzards/wing combo with salt, pepper and extra mild sauce. I’ll tell the street vendors you said, “what up?”
Been reading your blog for years, Freeman. Keep it movin’.
My boy just spoke with the cat and got him to tell me the whole angle to the hustle over the phone. So he gave me the prices, the bundle sizes and even told me to come out to Chicago and he would show me where to get them at. So that’s why I know the Brothers name as he was happy to share the game. He even said it’s a GOOD HONEST LIVING so I respect his hustle.
Chicago along with a lot of cities have a Hustling Vibe that no one really talks about. I just like bringing new ways of getting money to the R&G so we can build!
That was noble of the brother to share the “wealth.”
The blue collar rep that Chicago has is real and true. They don’t call it “The City that Works” for nothin’.
Too bad it isn’t humid here in LA like it is there, or we could each be getting towel money!
You’re right no humidity in LA and the desert heat is only felt outside of Los Angeles so the overall water hustle is not a winner.
Well when my boy asked him he let him know we weren’t using the hustle in Chicago and definitely not in his area. So he felt comfortable sharing the game.
