Racism – Podcast
Reading time: 1 – 2 minutes
Instead of acting like it doesn’t exist it’s better if we just prepare for it. For most Black people racism is a fact of life. It’s not ignorant or any other way of trying to make it look like it’s not a problem or taking the cowards way out. It’s better for those of us who go into business for ourselves to prepare ourselves with solutions to easily move around it. As always if you open up your own business there’s a greater chance you can choose who you interact with instead of sitting on a plantation and dealing with it. Racism is easily avoidable if we choose to move in a direction where it doesn’t effect our money and affect our well being. Enjoy or Not!

You aint never lied about racism. i am in outside sales for that beverage company you mentioned and i go into those different ethnic communities. you are correct as long as they get the cheapest price they like you. but come in and pitch higher end items you will be shown the door
It’s the game for sure and as long we know the niches will be alright. Sooner or later if we build up our own we can sell bigger things to our own.
I just hate that we always try to ignore it and act like it can be overcome by saying it’s ignorant. All that close your eyes and hope and pray for a better way shit is a cowards way out.
Like you said, racism only affects people who need others to let them in the door. If you had your own company, you wouldn’t worry about discriminatory hiring practices. If you had to your own supermarkets, you wouldn’t worry about unequal food distribution. If you had your own schools, you wouldn’t worry about unequal funding.
I’m getting a reality check with this lately at my job. Seems like they notice mistakes more than they do others. Seems like they’ve got their eye on me more than they others. For the longest, I underestimated this kind of stuff.
But its all good because it only reinforces my plan to get out of corporate America and get my own. I don’t complain or feel sad about it because I knew what it was when I started. Now, I’m just becoming more focused.
For a long time our parents and everyone have told us to kind of ignore it but no one has ever volunteered that we can start our own businesses and not even entertain the thought. The whole idea of willingly working for people when you know they already have a problem with you when you walk in the door is insane. Like I said the answer to all questions and all dilemmas come back to us starting things for ourselves.
But, like you said bide your time and be aware of your surroundings. Keep you head low and the salary high until you can do something for yourself.
When people see my adds and contact me I talk very flat and normal cause it’s business. Not like I’m on the streets, when they actually see me and I buy their goods they look so surprised lol. Like a black man is actually running a legitimate operation?
That’s why you have to love the internet as a whole. All pure exchanges of money without the BS.
You are learning the game and that’s don’t let your ego, personality, swag or flare fvck up the money. Just exchange cash for product and keep it moving. We are in this for the flip!
I do this all the time with one of my businesses right now! I even open the conversation with prospective clients by stating that I’m calling on my behalf of my own company!
It kind of also has the added advantage of making them think that you’re bigger than you are and helps in the negotiation process because they think you don’t have the authority to offer better deals. Especially when they think you’re only getting a small piece of the pie when really you’re getting the whole thing!
I like the added benefit as that’s the angle. If they assume you aren’t in charge who cares as long as you get the money and the transaction over with. This isn’t about making friends it’s about making money.
It’s our ego that wants people to know this is our place. We go to McDonald’s every day and don’t know who owns it. Nor do we walk in asking for Mr. McDonalds! So game recognize game and just get the money and go home.
This is true, you can hustle around racism. Recently, I tried to sell an item on Ebay and at first it didn’t sell. The second time I tried to sell it, I used a random pic off google with a white hand in the picture with my item and it sold instantly.
It’s giving people what they want and if the bigot wants to see a white hand give it to him and take the green money!
