It Ain’t You
Reading time: 3 – 4 minutes
Sometimes you want to be something way more than you can actually become it. I know some of you have friends who think they can sing but really they can’t. You sit there as they have been humming some shit since you knew them in High School and 5 years later they are still humming some shit. They are waiting for their chance to blow up and walk around with a basketball like they are playing at Rucker park. The funniest thing about it is it just ain’t in them. Now I don’t mean they don’t have the desire to be it but they just aren’t talented enough. They just can’t seem to crack the code and more than likely it’s because it’s not what they should be.
There are a lot of people who chase their dreams and don’t realize it’s not who they really are. This might be your friend who wants to be an actor but never takes acting lessons. This can be the cat who thinks he can sing but never takes vocal lessons. They think God gave them a gift but really God gave the gift of loving friends. I have some friends who just can’t seem to get right about things. They think they have a calling but I’m sure it was a wrong number. They keep trying to approach something they wish they had a passion for with their fake ass passion and end up delivering fake ass goods. Now I don’t usually tell people to give their angles up but sometimes you have to be a friend and tell them to go fish! The world doesn’t have any of the cards that’s going to pay you for your subpar ass talent so let’s move on!
I only bring this up as I caught up with a girl-friend in the past who is still singing. No one I knew ever thought she was any good and I was just cool with her and asked her not to sing around me. I wish she had that kind of blind faith in this chip chase but instead you only find these kind of motherfuckers in the art world. Singing, Dancing, Drawing, Baking, Dressing, or any other artistic pursuit that ends in ING! For the life of me whenever it comes to art people with no talent jump in and fvck it up for everybody. I know there’s no talking to anyone who really wants to be famous. Shit, I had friends who played guitars, sang and rapped for years thinking they were going to be something.
I know this is a rambling post but do me a favor if you aren’t successful in some artistic shit. Please, please think about if that shit is really in you. Not in wanting to be it but in actually delivering it! You might be better as the manager or setting up a venue for people who actually have the talent. I know that hurts a bit but someone has to be a customer not all of us can be a Hustler!

Is it American Idol season already?
Its funny because me and my girl had a discussion about this.we came to the conclusion that alot of our people want the limelite instead of the chips.Thats something you always want stress on R&G
Alot of people rather have the fame than the money. I read the other day how this person had fame for whatever reason but they say they was broke as hell for years before that fame turned into any real dollars.
Alot of people have subpar talent and out of the ones that do have enough talent to make it only a few of them make it. Better do something thats going to gaurentee that paper than chase a pipe dream.
@Reader – In the Black community there is american idol contests in every neighborhood. There is always someone who believes they have what it takes. It’s a pipe dream primarily because everyone thinks God gave them a gift but it wasn’t and it isn’t.
@Kozi – They want to be Rich & Famous but they sure as hell don’t want to be talented. Without the talent the money and fame can’t come. I know people see all these subpar people making money but it’s a sign of the time we’re in. Before American Idol it was Star Search… so this angle is always on.
@Anubis – People can do both as chasing chips won’t get in the middle of chasing your dreams. I just think with artistic cats they go all out and end up broke. Then they blame the game they’re in but they chose to be chose! I think there aren’t that many talented people in this world but a lot of wannabees. The reason why you appreciate talent is because it’s not seen that much. But, we got so many wannabe put on rich and famous groupies in this game it makes the talent pool diluted.
Freeman let’s not forget that all anyone sees of black folks in the media is entertainment, entertainment, entertainment. So the young kids think that the only way to make it is entertainment, by singing or sports, they don’t see alot of black business owners or CEO’s so they don’t understand that there is more to life than entertainment!I understood this when I was a teenager, I always wanted my own business, just didn’t know how to go about it. Thank god I am not young now, it is too crazy.
I agree as I swear all the youngins got some kind of harmonica or banjo on their knee as part of their way to make money. That’s why I come down hard on entertainment because while there are a lot of people singing most got dicked.
To me it’s a mentality of doing what you love. That statement right there has created many a bum in this game. I like partying, going to the Laker game, going to Raider games and generally lounging but I know none of that shit will make me money. So I’d better get my mind right and stop with all of this love shit.
Hey but what do you want to do if let’s say playing guitar and singing is your passion and it’s the best skill that you have and you just enjoy doing it ?
So what that people don’t buy what you produce. You do what you like and that’s a pretty high salary isn’t it?
I think it is better to keep doing this than trying to fit into a damn fucking slave-corporate environment.
BigNose the R&G ain’t the place for your passion there are other places where you can find your bliss. I don’t see how a cat who can play the guitar can’t make money at the same time. Why is it a all in thing on something that doesn’t produce for your livelihood? The same cat could work a grave yard shift and still do gigs couldn’t he?
Look if you do for self and support yourself you can do whatever the hell you want. I think to go for something that doesn’t produce and then say if you’re poor at least you’re doing your passion that’s a Sucker deal and a Suckers mentality.
It’s the same thing with the rap game. It’s like there a million rappers trying to get the same thing but few actually have the talent to make it.
Exactly! That’s why they suck ass as they aren’t really trying to be great they just want the fame and groupies that come with the game! But, the Owners need one hit wonders too so even if it’s shit and it goes platinum the cat running the record company makes a million + on some bullshit. That’s the bigger angle to this game!
You’re right. I think people don’t like to put in the necessary work to own and aren’t patient enough for the big money. Dick Clark, Don Cornelius, and Bob Johnson have never sang anything…but put everybody on and are multimillionaires. Why folks on Youtube trying to be the next Justin Bieber? lol.
It’s what I always say they want to be more Famous than Rich! Also, they have been trained that they have a talent that could get them out of the ghetto, cure cancer and make pigs fly. So if you are brainwashed like that you’ll be all in too.
Big Business and Big Money by it’s nature is very quiet. It’ll take someone to teach the game for people to see. Otherwise the game is to present it in a way that makes people want to be part of it instead of owning all of it.
But isnt that the game to have people strive for and spend money on something that they will never attain. Almost every one I know has tried to rap, produce, dance, play ball whatever, and only a handful of these people have made any money from it at all.
It’s a game alright the devils game. To make people believe going after pipe dreams is all part of living a good life is a CON. To make people believe that it’s normal to take the 1 out of 1 million way is a CON. To make people believe they have to be all in on positions where you have to be chose is a CON.
This shit is like a little kid trying out for the tree in a bullshit elementary play. The mentality is at least you’re on the stage but we know you ain’t saying shit.
I like you know plenty of people who never were or are still trying to be. See the game is they aren’t trying to be a good rapper they are trying to be rich and famous. As a result they will never make it but someone keeps telling them to go down that road and through those motions.
Dude, I used to always try to be a teacher but no one seemed to learn what I had to teach.
Instead it was just easier to get ish done myself and then have ‘students’ show up ready to learn.
I’d love to be a better teacher – but maybe it just ain’t in me.
The best teacher is the one who already did it. Then they tell how and not some dumbshit theory. You become more effective because you actually did it so I think you’ll be a great teacher if you boil it down to getting people to do exactly what you do.
I’m sure with all the opening and running of clubs you have a blueprint to that game that can be shared with anyone going into it. Wisdom & Experience make a hell of a blueprint.
