No Looking Back

Reading time: 3 – 4 minutes

A lot of cat’s look back into the past and wonder why things aren’t that way. Even more cats look back and think they can repeat the same feat today. But, truth be told there’s no looking back and there’s no way to recreate the past or make a better version. We all have to adjust with new goals and action plans that fit today’s time. The only thing you can learn from the past is either how not to fall for that again or know the impossible can happen. I say all that to say things are always moving forward from technology, to your mindstate and to what is actually possible. The only people who reminisce on what was are grievers because they never got over the loss.

A cat told me you can predict the future from the past. Now of course I disagreed because what motherfvcker could predict the microwave during ancient egyptian times? What in their past could be a indicator of the microwave. To me the only people who think about the past that much are the people who wish they were still there. It’s like people who love to watch and attend things that are set back in time. Now they love the nostalgia of it but when it was 1950 that’s just how they were living. So although this customer can visit it in a fake Disney form it’s not real.

I bring this up because a lot of cats like to remember Black Wall St and how Blacks had a lot of businesses. They think something like that will come back but truth be told it won’t. The next Black Wall Street inspired empire will be better and based off the needs of today. The situation that forced all the Black professionals and businessman to live in one area doesn’t exist today. The undeniable reason to come together that was evident during those times is not as evident today. Today’s Black folks have a lot more freedom and that freedom includes the right to not live by each other. Today’s Black folks want a whole bunch of amenities and want to be more diverse in their friends. Today’s Black folks are full of self hate but justify it by saying Black folks don’t make quality goods, places or experiences. So looking back on Black Wall St is like remembering a great man and watching his widow weep.

Remember there’s no looking back when it comes to building. Just like the bad times are over in your personal life so are the good times because time keeps moving forward. So your solution or plan, while inspired by a past event; has to be updated with today’s mentality of people and with today’s technology. It should make you optimistic about what your future could possibly be because if the cats could build during those rough times what can you and I do in these not so rough times? All things rise and fall as that’s the way GOD set it up so since we are builders by nature we will build something different and better. But, it won’t be the second or next of anything it’ll just be what we built!

When driving, I realize that I drive slower and even sometimes swerve a little bit when I look in the rearview mirror too much. And that’s all I have to say about looking back. LOL

Well you can’t do both.. look back and look forward. It might also be the flask of 151 Rum you take a swig on before you punch in at work too. And, that’s all I have to say about that 151!

I think what the cat meant by the “prediction” statement was that history shows certain patterns in human behavior that go beyond certain events. Similar to Solomon’s statement: “there is nothing new under the sun.” The statement is not so much about particular advancements as it is saying that society always advances even though man has the same basic patterns. If that makes sense.

Its like people who always say “back in the good ole days” as if life was better and/or different back then. Like people weren’t getting robbed and murdered back then. Like children weren’t getting raped and molested. Like husbands didn’t beat their wives and wives didn’t cheat while their husbands were at work “back in the hey day.” Not so because I bet their parents said the same “back in good ole days” type statements. Or how Christians say the “world is coming to an end because of how sinful society is.” Well, they’ve been saying that since Sodom and Gomorra.

That being said, people do take too much time contemplating past life events instead of analysing past behaviors and fixing them to improve their future. Its like a woman who constantly thinks about all the men who did her wrong in the past instead of analysing why she was attracted to those types of guys so she can improve her thinking and choose wisely in the future. Or the guy who agonizes over loosing money on different business ventures instead of analysing his reasoning behind starting those particular businesses so he can improve this time around.

Well the cat using the prediction statement used it in the context that Black folks will never come together like they did in the past. Like there was no reason to concentrate on building anything because the majority of Black folks are lost. So I said the reason to come together in the past is not the reason to be used today. So the tactics like civil rights and exclusion are not the motivators of Black folks today.

My belief is similar to yours where you analyze the mentality of the people and the circumstances they find theirselves in. From that we won’t reproduce the same circumstance as that’s impossible, but we can use it as an example of what can be done. We have a lot of people who know history but very few that do something to make history. If we keep concentrating on anothers generations accomplishments we won’t have any of our own. So instead of people thinking of a way to be great they just look around moping thinking we surely aren’t like the people in the 60′s! They’re right as I wasn’t even born in the 60′s!

Man you’re right. I need to shake this nostalgia off me quick. Else I’ll be like the lames crying about the past. And staying stuck. The last paragraph is on point. “If we keep concentrating on another generation’s accomplishments we won’t have any of our own.”. Damn! The knockout blow. LOL.

A lot of us are stuck admiring the past instead of doing something now. That’s why I don’t put the folks of the 60′s down as they did something whether it is deemed good or bad. What we have nowadays are whole bunch of reporters, historians and big talkers. Shit even before their time you had Marcus Garvey, Booker T. Washington, Fredrick Douglas and the like. Where are the cats of our time who do something big?

So until that time we just need to concentrate on building in our time instead of complaining or big upping the past to a point where it’s like the last time our team won the Super Bowl. Ain’t no heroes in history and if there are some it’s because we haven’t done anything since.

I’m new to online blogs but so many of our people keep complaining about things that happened 40 years ago (well before I was born). Like this so called gender war or black men aint shit no matter what; so many people complaining about jobs when they had a chance to own their own shit. I just don’t get it.
But I have a plan. Im not saying Im going to be some dumb leader but I have something marinating right now.

Then there are people saying change my major b/c I have bad credit. I’m like well If I cant get a job in this field b/c of bad credit what makes you think I can get a job with another major. I plan on using my degree to open up accounting/cpa firms, tax offices, credit unions etc any way. Like I give a shit if they hire me. In the mean time until I graduate I’ll work on paying my debts off and keeping my true intentions a secret

I hate the reporters too. They aren’t going to do anything about it but they sure as hell like to point out how everyone else is coming up lame. They think by knowing history that somehow gives them a pass and now they can talk about others. We don’t need any damn historians we need bold people to start doing something about it. Until then I try to keep quiet and stay on mission.

You can’t listen to the Slaves about what is best for the Plantation! Since you are thinking about applying your own knowledge to better yourself and to make your own empire then what they say holds no weight! Bad credit hasn’t ever stopped the Hustle homie and since you know your plan is to start your own business then you only need to save up to hit the ground running. You won’t need a recommendation to make this money. You won’t need to have helped the helpless to make this money. You don’t need to be the top of your class to make this money. You don’t need any cosignor to your angle to make this money.

Keep the previous all in mind on your journey. The man destined to be King passes by plenty of Peasants on the way up. Stay humble, stay focused, stay stacking chips and stay about acquiring the necessary knowledge.

The rule is …. Look like everyone else but think about what you can do for yourself!

One of the few (and probably the most important) lessons I’ve learned from the past is just as the slaves had to buy their freedom in some cases, we have to buy our freedom now. If that analogy holds true Freeman you might be the Underground Railroad in this piece!

  15. R&G wrote:

Nope not the underground railroad! Just presenting another point of view on the game. We got a lot of folk who quit participating and accepted their fate primarily because they didn’t fit in the system. But, you don’t need the system at all to make it in this game. You just need the right knowledge to build and you can ignore the Slaves in fancy clothing.
