Black In Latin America

Reading time: 4 – 6 minutes

If you haven’t seen this series you are really slipping. For those who don’t know it’s worth taking the time to watch all of the episodes. It’ll teach you a thing or two or two hundred twenty two. With the understanding of money comes the understanding of yourself and why you are where you are. This is by far the best series touching on the history of Black folks and how you and I are not alone. We are everywhere and thus we should think about being everything.

    I agree.

I just need to take some ginger ale + crakers or pepto-bismol to settle My stomach to watch Henry Louis Gates.

Back in the day, that negro use to Go In on the conscious elders like Alton Maddox, Dr, Ben Jochannan, even the Great Dr. John Henri Clarke…..

Still got a bad taste in My mouth bout this dude. But the Game in this PBS series was hella good.

Well bruh we can disagree on certain things and still learn from each other on others. I just learn to isolate certain arguments or disagreements and keep it moving. Unless the cat is inherently foul I usually can deal with anyone. But, in your case take the medicine.

The series has been out since April but it’s a eye opener on how spread out we really are. Family is everywhere and we should capitalize on it.

I’m going to sit down and watch all of the full episodes later on. Yes, black people are all over the place. That’s why it trips me out when blacks from other parts of the world downplay or flat out deny their African roots. As if their skin color and features are just happenstance. I hear this moreso from the Dominicans as the clip suggests. But you sometimes you can’t make a sucka see the light. Their loss.

Either way, I have plans to travel and would love to spend some time in all of these places. It would be interesting to see how black people are living in different parts of the world.

Well a lot of people don’t want to be Black and for those people we can all let them be. It’s hard not to be Black because you can’t really hide it. You’ll see the reason why the Dominican cats say that as he went there and Haiti.

We’re home wherever we go we just have to know where we are! I got a trip to London coming up and I’ll make sure to connect with my folk on that side too.

Great post Freeman! Alot of people don’t care for Gates. That being said it was a great series and yes we are all over this planet and deep as hell. It’s funny because my boy recently went to Peru and when he came back he was like man it’s hella black folks there. The unfortunate part is he said WE usually reside in rough areas. He told me they had to pass through the hood on the way back to the airport and the cab driver rolled up the windows and hit the auto locks lmao.

Bruh all I know about Gates is he’s the cat that Obama had the beer meetup with that cop. Otherwise the cat is not that important that he would turn me off to learning. He’s still Black like me so I got a open ear to the cat no matter his stance.

My boy was in Saudi Arabia and the cats over there were calling him brother. Also, my own life experiences have shown me that no matter where I go if I see another Brother we can usually break bread. So I know besides the Latin America angle we are not alone wherever we happen to be. We just have to seek each other out.

Rough areas let you know that our condition is a worldwide conspiracy. Racism has been exported and we still suffer from those who believe what our enemies say without checking the forked tongue. It’s alright as all things rise sooner or later and if you really know history you’ll see we are moving upward dramatically. It’s just we don’t have our own news source to report the growth so we have to wait for cats to do documentaries to know we are out there.

I honestly hate the way that Gates and his ilk tend to focus on slave history. Why not glorify the accomplishments? I mean look at how the history of Haiti was only touched on as part of a show that was shared with the Dominican Republic. On the other hand as someone who has actually been to most of these countries; I do think this series is very informative for people who haven’t been there and or just don’t know the history and other social dynamics.

I think their generation has a totally different focus than ours. So they produce what they are and what they feel. You get more eyes by showing you’re a victim than the victor!

For general information I agree, I think it’s great for those who just don’t know.

Oh yeah this is the most informative that ive seen. I actually caught this two months ago. Just like Supreme I didn’t care for Mr. Gates either but gave him hella props for this doc! May want to also check Moors in Spain on a historical account

@JB – You’re welcome bruh as I didn’t know all that was provided in those videos til I saw it either.

@Kozi – Definitely will check it out. C’mon if you can read Mein Kamp from Hitler ten I’m sure cats can learn from Mr. Gates. We can’t let petty beefs or disagreements stop us from learning.

I got as far as the Brazil clip, i’ll catch the rest tomorrow. Y’know, i’ve come up with a theory as to why we as Blacks are seemingly the least respected race in our whole damn solar system. This may offend some, but so be it…It offends me to even have to say it!!

Aside from the Moors conquering Spain, we as Blacks have never rose up to defeat our white captors. Think about it, we were enslaved for centuries by our white captors, and to add insult to injury, we even had to be freed (reluctantly, i’m sure) by these same captors!! There was never any victory or surrender, only mercy, and there is no ‘collective bargaining’ when you’re pleading with your captors to have mercy on you!! As a result, they relented and gave us what THEY wanted us to have, which was and is the scum from the bottom of the barrel. Whereas had we risen up and fought tooth and nail to the finish, or perhaps even defeated them, we could have pillaged and plundered what WE wanted to have, and or what we so richly deserve to have just like they did!!

Of course they would not have been fond of us, but shiiii they don’t like us now, yet i’d bet dollars to dirty drawls THEY and the WORLD would respect us…The Black Man!! I’m jus sayin’, thats my theory…and please believe, i mean this as NO disrespect to those whom shoulders i so comfortably rest on at this very moment…its just how i see things from where i sit.

We’ll you have to get through the rest and you’ll see more things. We don’t know all the people who fought back because why would the defeated write it in their history books. Beyond that all of that is the past and we are here today. You should concentrate only on building in your time and use the past for knowledge. We all have theories but we don’t have plans. We all know what’s wrong but no one has come forth with what’s right.

It’ll be better if you bettered yourself and those around you. A new reality comes about because we choose it and it’s not based off the failures of the past. Respect is something that we can always get but first we must respect ourselves and do for ourselves.
