Lose Yourself – Podcast
Reading time: 1 – 2 minutes
There’s money in you losing yourself trying to get money. People will throw money at someone who is willing to show their ass for their pleasure. You making a fool of yourself thinking it will increase your sales might work for a while but in the end you’ll be known as a fool period. I know some people say they will do anything for the money but that’s because they don’t believe they will get it without somehow losing their pride, dignity and integrity. If you fall for that you’ll sell everything that makes you, you; for the sake of making money you could’ve got without losing yourself in the process.

This is exactly why I love your blog! For better or worse stuff like this podcast reminds me that I’ve actually seen some pretty awful shit up close and personal. But living comfortably allows me to forget sometimes and that’s when dumb ass thoughts start making sense. Thanks a lot for the reality check.
Freeman! You did that “tough love” podcast. You kept it real and gutter. Most people lose themselves as you said it becomes easy to cheat. From Wall St to the small business man. Intergrity and Morals are hard to see when you get clouded by money. Most of the people that get suckered are the poor, uneducated and the ones that do not have self awareness. Sometimes they are just around the wrong people. Others that know better are just plain greedy
Stay educated stay informed!! Stay hungry, but don’t get greedy. have patience
@Carl – I hate to bring it up myself because it’s just a lot of wasted talent on the road to getting money. Money will pimp you just as much as pimp will mentally but if there’s a lot of money people justify it. I just wanted to show that even the worse elements of society don’t sell out for their money either. We want money so bad we’ll kill ourselves to get it and that’s just stupid all the way around.
@LMJ – Low self esteem makes people believe the money is something someone will give to you instead of having high self esteem and thinking you can go out and take the money. I agree the uninformed are most susceptible to it but the intelligent justify it everyday.
The great thing about Black people is we have Shame! Other groups will pimp their daughters and turn them out to be pop stars. I want to make money like a Dope dealer I’m just working hard on finding a way to get it without the dope.
Excellent podcast. I thought the “Fat Ho” hamburgers was just a hypothetical example until I googled it and found what you were referring to. Wow, she couldn’t call it something else? I’m not against her for creating a restaurant with an intriguing name but thats too much.
And good points about people who turn to things like stripping and drug dealing. People watch too much TV/movies and listen to too much Rick Ross. Most strippers and drug dealers would make the same amount of money at a regular retail job without all the stress and danger involved in those lines of work. There is a book called Freakanomics that proved that the average street corner drug dealer makes the same as someone who flips burgers at McDonald’s. And strippers don’t make much money without engaging in some extracurricular activities. A pile of ones and fives looks like alot until you actually count it.
I think some people just like the intrigue of being involved in those lines of work. It gives them this aura of being tied to the streets or the underworld. That’s very appealing especially to people who come from areas where that lifestyle if glorified. Problem is, they never see beyond the street level to understand that if you can see what they’re doing, then they’re not the ones truly making the money.
Reminds me of this HBO special I saw where this straight dude was doing “gay for pay” porn, with his wife watching, and saying it was “Just for the Money”.
“Doing for Self” should never be equated with “Cooning for Cash” because if it is then we should look to Tyler Perry and Robert “Bob” Johnson as our idols.
@McD – Yeah the Fat Ho controversy interrupted regular R&G programming to be addressed. This is why I jump on people for applying teenage game to real money. This is only appealing to a teenager who hasn’t seen the world yet to look like something else. But, most of these naive cats go on to fill up the jails of the country. There needs to be a Hustle 101 in high school so young cats can know what getting dicked and tricked looks like overall.
@JGalt – LMBAO I like Cooning for Cash as that’s exactly what it is. The more you take a step towards doing outrageous shit for money the more you’ll look up in 5 years looking like a Ho!
I saw the video too but now since I heard this podcast I have to start thinking about what’s right and wrong. Like you said Lakisha is making money but by embarrassing herself and since she is a woman I think it’s more shocking to see woman degrade theirselves.
When you are starving you’ll eat anything.
When you are broke you’ll try anything.
When you are ignorant you’ll say anything.
I think she will realize it later but being ignorant makes you learn the hard way about life. There are a lot of naive people suffering for the rest of their life for something they thought was smart when they were young and dumb.
@R&G That “Cooning for Cash” I picked up from that Spike Lee movie “Bamboozled”, which shows the lengths brothers will go to for the chips. They have us stereotyped by “Aunt Jemima Syrup” and “Uncle Ben’s Rice” and “Good Times” type television shows until even some of us believed that the “Cosby Show” was not a realistic portrayal of ourselves. We can make money and be respected as was shown by Reginald Lewis and other black economic pioneers such as AG Gaston, who bailed Rev. King out of jail.
Freeman, I officially nominate you for the “Drop Squad” with this post!
You know I have seen a lot of movies but I haven’t seen that one as of today. I will have to go online and cop a squat and see what I’ve been missing.
I got to agree with one thing though. I think the hardest part of telling people that we can do BIG things is them conquering themselves to take a shot. They only see Street Stuff so much that they think Black & Ghetto are basically the same thing.
Through out this podcast when you mention “fat ho burgers” I though it was funny because I really couldn’t believe it exist until I looked it up also. She very young in the game 23 yrs old I applaud the fact she is trying to better herself but damn she could have came with a better name than that she really not looking into the future.
I hate that I had to use her for an example but her ignorance explained game the best.
