Use Minorities

Reading time: 1 – 2 minutes

People especially minorities that are excluded usually love to see theirselves on commercials. Most of the time it’s because they believe that now they are included because the big companies have them acting a damn fool just like the white guy. Also, it helps the big company to seem like they want your minority dollars too. The more of their culture you can use in the commercial the better! Most people only remember the McDonald’s commercials that have their race in it. McDonald’s by far is the king of this angle so I couldn’t just give you one example I had to give you two.

State Farm insurance, Burger King, and a host of others do this too. They know we are the biggest consumers and if we see ourselves in a commercial, we may automatically try that company out without researching what they’re actually about.

It’s simple math! What do you give the people who are usually ignored.. ATTENTION! So since we get caught up in being on TV we just assume they must support us too. Really they just want to make more money and it’s no different from them translating commercials into Spanish.

The Academy Awards pull this scam every year and Black people still fall for it. I sit there in amazement looking at Black people happy because Denzel, Three-Six Mafia, Jamie Foxx, Halle Berry or whatever got Oscars but ignore the fact this 5 hour television show does not acknowledge any other minorities.

  4. This right here is truth! Add Blue Cross and Pepsi to the list as well. When will folks get a clue???

“The Academy Awards pull this scam every year and Black people still fall for it.” I have been talking about this for years amongst family and friends! I don’t remember the last time I have watched any of the award shows for this very reason.

I hate seeing black people in those “Payday Loan” commercials. They walk out all happy with $300 (I’m sure they are paying at least $350-$400 back) when it’s actually sad to have to borrow that bs amount of money.

Eff Hollywood and their boring Oscars. I wish there were more black film makers that made better movies. I don’t watch Tyler Perry because I get sick of hearing about relationship drama that people keep themselves in.

Ice Cube movies are good. He is so underrated.

@Valley Girl: I definitely agree that Ice Cube is extremely underrated, he puts in a lot of work that you really don’t hear about. I think he has a hell of a TBS deal if i’m not mistaken. I respect his grind because he literally came from nothing to something right before our eyes. But the Payday Loans commercials on the real they serve typically more minorities than tidy Whities due to their locale and our bad ass credit situation so until we can do better if the shoe fit then we gone have to wear it just to keep it funky.

@freeman This is angle is similar to the “We are Big” angle you were talking about last week. If they say we been had the White folks and now we got the Black and Brown… the product sells itself I think.

@Ed – It’s still the white man’s ice especially with this angle. Somehow our triumphs as a race all tie into overcoming white people and getting their women, awards and money. Damn we have to learn to like ourselves as you don’t see any Koreans, Chinese or Latinos happy as to be damned to be part of the masses. It’s sad to see like you said when the con is rolled out in full force.

@Bbutterfly – They all do it but if you ask anyone Black who works there they don’t see too many. It’s a child’s game by letting people pick the colors of the car they act like they are going to drive it. Same angle but this time they keep putting people that supposedly act like us if we were so lucky to have State Farm.

I get mad at it because I ain’t that fvcking stupid to be singing on a stoop about a fvcking Big Mac! BUT, I understand chips and I can see why they use it. NOW THAT WE KNOW THE ANGLE WE SHOULD USE IT TOO!

@Vgirl – The key is in what you said as if we made enough of our own things we wouldn’t watch these Vanilla Gorilla awards anyway. Damn music is awful and I don’t know 90% of the people on the damn awards. But, they are the only game in town until we get our game up.

Cube tells hood stories and TPerry tells relationship stories. If we had 100 more directors and filmmakers we would have good diversity. Since they are the prominent two they get scrutinized and praised too much if you ask me.

@KD – Paint your hustle the color of your Customers homie and you’ll be rich. Keep it like they are having a good time or are satisfied using your Rat Poision homie and watch them buy up.

All this month is corporate marketing game that they use on us. Imagine if those who Hustle added just a touch of these angles to their hustle! It would be over with… because we got real time data from seeing what happens on the street. The corporate cats are waiting for marketing cornballs to come up with something based on data from 1960.

This is why Rap sets trends and they know they can’t hang so they get someone to endorse they’re fake ass alcoholic drinks in bottles that look like shampoo and conditioner in your shower. The game is heavy with this angle.

This might be overkill but fam, the hair care industry is sick with this angle . I been peeping this since way back, make the excluded feel apart & they are loyal customers for life ! Added

    bet!

It’s the game homie! Either we are the ones running game or we are the ones other people are running game on.

  10. I agree w/ Valley Girl. The payday loans has to be the worst

Well the commercials appeal to those who actually use the service. I’m sure McDonald’s can’t sell you a McRib sandwich but every year when it comes out they always have some brother or sister biting into a fake shaped pork sandwich with no ribs inside! Since we patronize these places including the rent furniture places it makes CENTS to cater the commercials to us.
