No Class – Podcast
Reading time: < 1 minute
Just because someone knows how to set a table doesn’t mean they have class. Just because someone attends high end social events doesn’t mean they have class. Just because someone dresses, talks and walks like they come from high society doesn’t mean they have class. Class is about Money and anyone who tries to say they have Class without the Money is groupie and a damn lie!

Good point about the items people buy to show they have money or “class.” It amazes me when I ride through the hood and see brand new Cadillacs, Mercedes, Jaguars, etc. These people are more concerned about looking like they got it then actually getting it. Or maybe they feel that’s the best they can do-imitate. It’s a damn shame when someone’s car equals or surpasses the value of their house.
But I think many of us do it in some way or another before our thinking changes. Trying to keep up with the Jones’ but even the Jones’ are broke trying to imitate the dream. Like you said, people confuse class with decorum. It doesn’t take money to act right.
Well everyone looks at the hood but the true angle on this is the Middle Class. Almost all of the fronting goes on in the middle class trying to act like they are upper class. They attend upscale social events, eat at restaurants or buying certain clothes thinking it means they are rich. Then they look down on others like they are lesser than without knowing they are in the same group because they don’t have the money either.
The mannerisms of people with money is often confused with Money! The whole world is confused when it comes to money as they trade experiences and looking like it in exchange for actually having it. Money doesn’t have a look!
It kills me when I see middle class people say Master P. is “ghetto” when this brother is making major business moves and major chips in ways that they wish they could.
Russell Simmons will wear gym shoes with a tuxedo and people still line up to do business with him because what he wears and how he acts are irrelevant to his ability to make money.
Well your examples are people who had to be respected from the money they produced.
Real talk idiots think that different legal ways of making money that are not intellectual are not good money. So since they don’t respect rap they look down on it while they make 50K supervising the DMV windows! It doesn’t make sense but since they don’t understand money it makes sense to them.
At the end of the day the cat who has it, HAS IT! Everyone else is lying that they didn’t want it so instead of focusing on getting it they talk down on cats who found a creative way of making it.
@Mcdivit85,@R&G,@Jgait
You all are are right. Good podcast.
I feel what Mcdivit is saying about cars. I was at a restaurant and the waiter found out I had a job with FedEx. He was talking about how he didn’t need school and how he was doing good because he had a “magnum on 22′s”.
He then found out that I made pretty good from my loud mouth friends and asked what I drove. I said, ” A 97 Civic” happily knowing that my car can get me everywhere I need and allow me to stack all my chips since I owe no one for it. I don’t understand why young people only equate money with having a nice car.
It’s a lonely road homie but all the money belongs to us. You have to be strong because there will be more and more temptation to be a Sucker and justify Suckerism.
Sacrifice what you don’t mind right now to get things you really want and you’ll end up with more in the end.
Young people don’t understand because they are young and it’s a good excuse. Wait til you get a bit older and then you’ll just think people are flat our stupid and will forever be Customers.
Dang that is true, I see why you have that anger in your voice when you talk about people being customers. Their too old not to know better. It seems all people around my age group (20-24) think basically “what I can afford is what I buy”. There’s no idea of a tomorrow or anything, and if I look like I got money then it’s okay if I’m broke no one will know.
Man I learned my less on the price of housing. When I moved from Marietta, GA I had an $85K townhouse. I knew it would be expensive in Orange County. CA, but I was thinking I could catch a deal. It didn’t take before I was literally talking a dude into accepting my offer of $330K on a 1, 000 sqft. Condo that he had listed for $315K. Since he literally had 11 other offers (the 2nd best was $330K) I actually felt like he did me a favor.
@JB – I don’t get mad but I know I have to say it with some passion on the podcast to wake people up. People are who they are but a lot of us were never told about Money so we have dumb ass ways and thinking.
You’re young so you won’t see anyone that understands probably until you are 35. So in the meantime takeover!
@Carl – Yeah it’s a sticker shock coming to LA. Going the other way I’m amazed at how cheap everything is because a house for 45K is the same house in Compton going for 200K!
JGalt makes a good point – I hear that all the time.
“Bitch, he/she could buy you.” I say to those who hate on those who have more than themselves or who have done more than themselves.
The thing about speaking in proper SAE is that so few actually it.
Valley accents, Southern Drawls, Cajun Pigeon, Appalachian slang, Minnisooota, Chicaaago, Bawston or Joisey accents are just as common as is Ebonics.
But “Class” is a tricky to define.
Your above post points out a major flaw in the “Money is King” school of thought.
Many people can buy a Benz – but can they keep it?
Many can buy a business – but can the grow it?
Just because someone has the money to do/buy something it doesn’t mean that they can afford it.
People with little can still have more Class than would a selfish person who treats others with disdain.
I think anyone who worries about having class usually doesn’t have it anyway. It’s one of those titles that others give to you more than you trying to seek it or become it yourself. It’s the same way when someone says they know computers and that’s a sign they know nothing about computers.
Without the Money the whole discussion of having Class is mute. If you are visiting it instead of living it then you don’t have it. Class is usually expressed through actually not caring what others think of them because they are secure.
Yep.
