University of BS – (Lost Post)
Reading time: 4 – 6 minutes
I don’t know if you see what’s going on with all these online colleges so if not keep reading. Now when I say University of BS I don’t mean they aren’t reading the same books and that anyone who graduates from these colleges are not smart. So don’t start on me with the BS! What I am really saying is that it’s creating a educational caste system and if you go to one of these schools they will hire you but they will not promote you. No matter what anyone says or doesn’t say those online colleges really come across as college for cats who couldn’t get into a university. And, I mean not even into community college!
I see it now as a young brother gets out of National, DeVry or Phoenix University and gladly slides his resume to Mr. Hirer. Mr. Hirer sees the online college and says welp he finished and that’s good but I don’t know if he can run anything but he can be a good worker. Now Young Brother thinks alright I got a career and comes to answer phones for the newspaper and thinks to himself I’m starting on the ground floor.
After a year Young Brother starts seeing Younger Brothers with a college degree starting above the phones at the newpaper but says to himself I only been here a year so maybe Younger Brother is really a smart cat and I don’t want to hate on my own. So Young Brother lets it be and tries to control his own envy and hate but he still questions Younger Brother about college wanting to be satisfied with the fact that Younger Brother is a genius of some sort.
After yet another year Young Brother sees Younger Brother get promoted to manager and see Youngest Brother replace Younger Brother in the entry level spots. Now he’s mad saying damn I’ve been here 3 years answering phones and these little brothers don’t know shit, don’t have the experience and don’t know what they are doing and add to that I trained them all.
So finally Young Brother says I’m going to say something to the Boss and he gets fired! Yeah that’s what happens Young Brother gets fired and thinks life is unfair or files some discrimination suit.
Welp the way the game is going right now they are setting up a educational caste system. Believe me a cat who went to Harvard does not and will not let a cat who went to the University of Phoenix ever get next to them. It’s not classism and it’s not hate it’s really because people see these inferior degrees as just that inferior. Yeah the Phoenix brother might know what to do but they will never think he knows how to run things. People will straight up think you are trying to cheat your way to the top by not going through the grind they went through. See the beauty of it is the Owner of the business doesn’t have to say anything the cats with the college degrees will enforce it.
So I could go on about this but hopefully you get the picture. If you get fired come over and start your own business by some of the stuff talked about in Start Ups otherwise send me some money for predicting the future. The game has changed and they have found a way to make you get just enough training to work in the updated Blue collar. I mean you have to know computers to create the cars now and all these online colleges are taking your money to fill the needs. They are making you specialize in one field instead of being able to think and create across multiple disciplines.
And you thought there were going to be a bunch of displaced workers. Nope they found a way to make the high school dropout get a career when it actually is a glorified trade school! Damn!

Great post. I was always leary of these type of schools when I saw their commercials. Not to say that DeVry or Phoenix aren’t teaching people the same stuff Penn State or University of Florida is teaching, but I’m sure employers don’t see them on the same plane. Like you said, community college might get more props if it’s followed by a degree from a four-year college/university.
Thank God we have a choice to avoid all this corporate BS by learning the skills and mindset necessary to do for self.
@M85 – Yep we have a choice and that’s to get on out there and create our own. The whole schooling thing is a modified trade school angle and that’s why they are asking for the cats on the couch to come into Everest. Name one company that wants to pull the cat on the couch to come and work for them. So it’s a hustle but its a necessary hustle as not enough people are doing the trades anymore so whatever motivates people I’ll all for it.
The game is them realizing that people might not respect their way of getting in. It won’t be the boss who slows you down it’ll be your supervisor who won’t respect your hustle. So for those who go into the money game this way it’s just my warning to everyone that you might as well take the knowledge and do for self instead of trying to get put on and advance in another mans game.
@CEO – Well we all got to waster our time going through the system in order to come out of it and capitalize on it… that’s the game we can’t get around it. The biggest thing is to learn that money is made simply and you probably didn’t need the education they gave you but since you got it you might as well use it to take advantage of the idiots who respect that angle.
Education true nature is to get people self sufficient but the way they got it setup you are only of use to someone else. That’s a damn shame the way they can make the man who knows how to fish starve while waiting for his check from the guy who owns the fishery!
You should watch that PBS frontline special about colleges
Online schools are big business, they build them up and file for an IPO and become a stock. Making millions for the founders.
You know it’s a Hustle the way they pop up all over the place and how they take over some old business park offices. It’s like someone got the idea to take corporate training to the masses. It’s funny to watch but I knew it all comes back to money.
Damn you got to smile at how creative people are with their angles to money. Straight businessman started a school just to flip it into a IPO and cash out. Damn it’s amazing and sad at the same time. The game is recognizing it and avoiding it until you get your own and make dreams come true for others.
I think dudes who depend entirely on their degree are approaching things in the wrong manner, the unemployment rate is higher among college graduates! I’m currently working towards my degree but truth be told the most useful things I’ve learned came when I went out and sought the information for myself at my local library.
See you’re using it right and that is education is to supplement the hustle but it ain’t the hustle itself. When a man starts a business he learns marketing so he picks up the book but he doesn’t pick up a marketing book and think he can run a business.
They got the game backwards and that’s why it doesn’t make sense when people get out because they thought the books equal the money.
Interesting post, Freeman. My current jobs’ crawling with grads from online colleges, many of which, believe i’ve lost my mind for going the traditional route. Frankly, i prefer a traditional college as i’m not disciplined enough to self-educate myself to the level of a “true” college graduate. See, i wasted a lot of time running the streets doing my 1′s and 2′s when maybe i should have been in someone’s library or college. So for me, college means so much more than educating myself via Google University. I’ve gained a sense of stick-to-itiveness, the mental wherewithal to own my own corporation, and i learn something new about ME on a daily basis. But, more than that, we are all forever indebted to those who came before us (many of whom are frequently featured on this very site). These brave men and women suffered unfathomable injustices in order for you and i to even be able to walk on a campus, let alone get a degree.
When a man only learns how to fix a car that’s all he can ever be. When you went through a system that asks you to fix it, build it and sell it then you are a stronger person. Universities diversify their offerings to make your brain grow and expand. While it is a waste of time later in life you’ll see that you are pulling from different disciplines you came across in college.
It’s the same as any man who reads a lot of books he seems to know a lot about everything. While the man who only reads about sports is limited to being part of that discipline. It’s the accumulation of knowledge that makes you smarter. It’s reading enough to see patterns that come from all this diversity. What these online colleges are creating is cats who will forever be stuck in that spot but I bet you my bottom dollar you going to university will elevate you to other departments because they believe you have the acumen.
As long as we work for others you want to be all things. When you do for self you want to know all things so you can do all things.
check out Khanacademy.org
Bill Gates got his kids on that
I think I’m going to start R&G academy with the slogan “the more you know the less you’ll follow”
It looks like Khan is a great resource for those who are searching for it. The big issue is getting those who don’t think they need it to read it anyway.
