Vending Machine Start-Up

Reading time: 3 – 4 minutes

Yeah I know you think I’m talking about you lugging around a big old Coke machine but the angle that really works is the small ones. See what most people don’t realize about vending machines is if there is food in there then there’s probably some rats in there too. (bet you didn’t know that). That’s why most of your vending machines are for sodas as they haven’t made a rat yet to chew through aluminum. Nope what I’m talking about is the small ones that are on the counters as they are cheap to buy and if you place them the right way with the right products you should come up.

The reason why I say keep them small is so you can put them in your car instead of buying a truck with a lift gate. Most cats who have vending machines make a deal with the place that has them and gets the owner of the business to watch them for them. Now I know you are saying Freeman where’s the money Ok so here it is…..

Who told you that they had to just carry candy? You can get a vending machine that pushes out chapstick, condoms, tampons, skully, and all the crap that cats usually go to the 99 cent store to pick up! Well Yeah Freeman but where am I going to put them? How about barber shops and beauty salons as most of those places never have anything for people to eat when they are there. How about oil change lobbies as cats are sitting there looking at BS all day. How about dental offices where everyone is sitting there reading stupid magazines that are only in old folk homes. How about at the clinic where people are worried that they got HIV and need a break like a Snicker.

Setup:

  1. Look on Craigslist to find the small vending machines that are cheap
  2. Locate a Service Repair technician as he probably has 100 of them in his garage that he guarantees will work
  3. Think about the products that will sell in each place you choose to place them. Candy is easy but chapstick will probably sell better in certain more professional offices.
  4. Walk in and talk to all the owners, barbers, beauticians and dentists. Be honest about what you are trying to do and show them a picture of how small the vending machine is.

I know you are thinking Freeman this sounds like a lot of work! Yep it is but once you get to 100 barbers, beauticians and dentists you’ll see that you are making money and will probably develop a route. It’s a penny to dollars to grands hustle for sure but it’s something that can be done right now with no qualifications. Candy of course is what people are used to seeing but if you are creative you’ll see that people want a whole bunch of stuff that the corner store supplies. What better place than where they have to spend the next 3 hours!

The vending machines is not the hustle, the hustle is putting them in places where people don’t normally see them but they probably wished they were around!

Most of these deals are percentages or you can do consignment.

    Scenario 1:
Snickers cost you 30 cents wholesale you sell it for 75 cents in the machine. So to me you sell give the barber 15 cents which is 1/5th of the price. So that’s about 15 cents on each candy sold and you work it out like that. Maybe 10 cents if you can work it out since they can’t really see the money behind it.

    Scenario 2:
Place the machines in the barbershops and sell them the candy directly. So you can sell the same snickers and everything to them for 60 cents so they can charge 75 to everyone. Then you don’t have to worry about anything but supplying them instead of collecting money and breaking bread. It’s basically the same money but you have the machines that they are using. So this is kind of a reverse angle on it since they see all the money they bring in from letting you supply their candy machine. If the hustle breaks down then you can take your machine back and put it in another shop.

Some cats who don’t understand money will want you to pay rent to put the machine in there and still try to make money off the candy moved. So you have to level them out and say it’s either or but not both. Most will choose the money because they don’t understand long term dough so you get to put your name on all the vending machines and build a brand.

Come at them with the angle that it will bring extra money to them. Most barbers want some side hustle and you brought it to them so they will be alright with it. The game is really you having access to all their customers, in an environment where they have to wait and the barber probably got some change in his pocket. Remember kids are always in there and they got change for days so it’s a slow cooker of a hustle but if you roll out a lot of these small vending machines you’ll be able to collect some slow dough.

@Krumbz – Yeah everyone goes big on this hustle but the small ones will work for candy and they even have small soda machines the size of those small refrigerators. So if you break bread with the barber you’ll have some money and plus those barbers will probably be your biggest customers anyway.

The small ones are about 25 pounds so you can carry them in the backseat of your car or the trunk. The candy you can buy wholesale from Sams Club until you find the real distributor in your area and use your seller’s permit.

The game is simple it’s just a lot of walking and talking. Once you get the hustle up you should be going positive right away. It’s a volume thing so you have to buy the machines first and then calculate how long it will take you to recoup.

Another angle could be to sell the whole damn machine to the barbershop and then supply them with the candy and let the machine be their burden. YA DIG!
