Work the Job – Podcast
Reading time: 1 – 2 minutes
I get a lot of emails where people are wondering exactly how do they go about quitting their job to start their business. So I decided to create a podcast telling you how, what to do and when to do it. Just FYI I quit my full time job in the middle of New York with no family or backup plan to start my business. So believe me I didn’t do it because some guy on a podcast said to do it. So listen to the podcast and execute the plan. It’s easier than it looks but it takes some planning so this podcast is the plan…..

Man…Almost every podcast I discover some ways that I messed up the game for myself previously. Just like this job hustle I am doing now, I had 2 choices at the same time, one that would further the hustles I wanted to get into at the time but was a form of janitorial type position.
And another totally unrelated but paid like a few dollars more and sounded real good when you told people what you did for a living. My family wanted me to go for the second one because it was more glamorous and offered this great benefit package for retirement after you put in your 20-30 years, silly me I went for it and it does not advance my game one bit…
But you live and learn, it’s never too late to correct your course right?!
Great advice about keeping your mouth shut and do your thing also, I got burned like that by telling people my plans in advance, burned when I was nowhere ready to execute too…
“Avez-vous bien mangé aujourd’hui” LOL
Pretty good french FreeMan by the way!
I thought i was the only one who thought that way! I agree on this topic work your job learn what you need to learn to better your game. I go where the money go! i had people along the way tell me “that the grass is not always greener on the other side”. I tell them i dont work for grass i work for money! So i just keep it moving and keep my contact list growing. I always say to myself that there is always opportunity around the corner just go for it! And always remember that this is only temporary until you make your move!
Thanks as always for those words of insight and inspiration Freeman.
@Neil – Hey you proceeding the way you know is not a mistake it just is. I wish I could go back and change things too but that’s done and now I know more.
Hey you heard me say if it’s more money on the table take it. It doesn’t have to be related to your hustle but now you have more time and money to launch the hustle. It’s a trade-off that you have to make sure pays off.
Hey I don’t know that much french but the little I do know I perfected! LOL So don’t think I can have a full conversation as I’ll probably say the same thing over and over LOL
@JR – I hear the grass is greener crap too all the time and I always say I’m going to see anyway. That saying must’ve been made during the depression or something. Until you have your own I think it’s smart to look at all things as temporary. It helps me to concentrate on the bigger picture.
It’s common sense it’s just this kind of sense is not to common huh? Love the site keep up the great great work.
Sometimes you need to read it again to know it’s true. A lot of cats have the right idea it’s just they can’t find anyone to agree with them. It’s common sense it’s just cat’s need some support to really take notice of it.
Most of us have seen the sucker complain about his life forever by not making the change. Business has changed and they will not be here forever. These cats are trying to make money and then quit and move on to something else.
Cat’s have to think of themselves as being in business too. Get what you need and build on the side. Loyalty is only to the work you have to get done but not to the company who can fire you in a second.
There’s no wins here, no wins under someone else!
@Freeman Thanks for this on monday morning on my way to a job I know is only temporary.
The one thing you said that I agree with is this “they won’t hire you again” talk if you quit with no notice…
I’m not trying to go back there and work!!! This ain’t the Smokey Mountains and the only job in town is the coal mine!!!! When I quit a job, that means I found something better or I’m fed up not to do it again so if I leave, it will always be on my terms, not theirs.
If they can lay off cats and tell them to pack their ish the same day, why should I give them two weeks?
@Eman – No problem! Sometimes someone has to show you that all that what people hold as true is false. No one has any power of you and your life at all. You just let them believe that and so they let you believe that you can’t escape. Mental slavery thats all it is. As soon as you change the way you see things you’ll see how funny people really are…
@Ed – That’s one of those brainwashing things that came about from being formal. Like you said if they can fire you without two weeks why in the hell would you give them two weeks. That’s just being nice but if I can make more money tomorrow I will.
We got a lot of people believing in BS that they read in some book about business etiquette or someone recommended the way they handle it. If I’m gone I’m gone what the hell do I care if they are mad. Since you aren’t going to ask them for a recommendation what the hell do we care what they think.
@Freeman I See those suckers complaining everyday that have been working at the same place for 20+ yrs. They don’t know what they can do to make their life better for themselves. All they know is work at job.
Some people are where they are and they make peace with it. If you feel you deserve more you have to go for it or you’ll be that person 20+ years talking about what you could’ve been.
When people are young they don’t plan. When people are old they have too much to lose. The smart person is the young person who makes a plan.
I took my shot when I was in my early 20′s but I don’t know if I would take my chance now. When I took my chance I didn’t care about comfort and crap. I understand why people don’t want to take a chance when they get older you know that you could fail while when you were young you didn’t see all that could happen. It’s better to make a plan and cover both so you don’t fall at all.
great post freeman. It doesn’t make any sense to leave a job if you don’t have another one lined up. I know I get calls everyday with people asking “if I quit my job will I get unemployment benefits?”. Its amazing, for real. The game is called make money, so if you stop making more money than you had previously, you’re losing. I love the fact that you said “shut up” about keeping you’re excitement and dream to yourself till you get it set up. It is so easy for another person to hinder you unintentionally and on purpose. So in the meantime I just shut my mouth and remember its only temporary!
People understand the blueprint as to why they need to shut up but some get so excited and think they can trust people when they can’t. All people need to do is execute the plan and when it’s time to leave just leave with the company ready to go.
So what if your not ready to start a business, and your still working. Should I leave a two week notice for future references with other jobs? Or do employers even check?
If you’re not going to start a business then you need to give 2 week notice. What’s the use of a 2 week notice if the next day you plan to be in business? Your vendors aren’t going to ask for it.
2 week notice is just a courtesy that employees have been conned to give. Why rock the boat? But, when you plan to start your business and never comeback it makes no sense.
