I agree waiting on anybody to greenlight your hustle is the worst thing you can possibly do. You referenced the entertainment industry being the worst industry to be in is true but it’s not much different from other industries. It’s all about how you go about it. Now you have to own everything you do.You can’t sit around and wait for a label or casting directors to give you that big break. You have to get off your ass and hustle and alot of artist , producers & etc..aren’t business savy at all and thats where they loose. I know some rappers who are touring Europe and getting paid for their work because they are creating , marketing & promoting their own stuff. As well as beatmakers in Atlanta who are making $1000-$5000 a beat. Also look at tyler perry the dude is the only black person in hollywood to OWN a studio so now he can make movies whenever he pleases he doesn’t have to wait for anybody to green light anything. So at the end of the day you have to own your hustle

Man you got haters like that that you need to devote a Jadakiss song to them. LMAO. Like you said when you stand up you have to expect someone to challenge you but that song was funny. I might have to email that to some of my haters.

I agree with you about changing your mind. If the product is great then you presenting yourself is in the background. I was laughing at when was the last time someone sold you toilet paper. There is so much to learn glad to have you as a guide. At least this way it’s funny and informative.

@Gordo – I’m not saying that it’s impossible and I agree with you in any hustle you have a lot of people slacking. You know I agree with 100% ownership. I’m just saying the table is set and you only have so many distribution outlets and they have that game on lock.

Besides entertaining people the other side of the coin is distribution. That’s where the movie studios and record companies make big money cuz they are getting dollars off of everyone’s talents. They don’t have to be talented as they make money no matter the genre no matter the high or the low. They created a situations where you success has to be funneled through them.

That’s why I call it a bad hustle. How can you own your stuff when you still have to bargain with the devil for distribution. Now if someone else came up with distribution I’ll be happy but for now and the last 100 years of music only a couple of cats have real power. Everyone else is just trying to get chose by them.

Tyler Perry is doing his thing but I’ll be happier to see him get some kind of distribution going. Music is the ultimate pimping as you do all the work and someone owns the masters and redistributes them under corny titles like Now That’s Music or some Time Life oldies. They own the property while the person who actually made it settles for royalties aka pennies on the dollar.

@Califormula – Sometimes you have to address the haters. I get some occasional hate mail but I usually don’t respond. I thought Jada could address it better.

Money is just as much constant learning as any other profession. No matter what you do on this earth you are trying to come up so why are people concentrating on the leaves instead of the root. The root is money in any game you go into but cats want to be noticed and have fame so they end up watching their accountant rob them when their career burns out.

To me the most important thing you said was (paraphrasing) opening your own business means you don’t have to lie to people anymore. For me that was THE biggest reason I did. Money was honestly secondary.
Damn, are you really getting hate mail like that? It’s surprising but I know from personal experience how people will lash out at you for shooting down the excuses that they use for their failures.

Independence is bigger than money but until the cat’s get to the money they won’t realize the independence. That’s why you don’t have to lie because what the hell is anyone going to do about it. To me it’s the most attractive part of doing for self but I know other people think money is the reward. Oh well we’ll keep building and providing examples.

Since I started I always had them just for the reasons you enumerated. I have PHD cats emailing me following the site but get mad that I’m not telling cats to join the system to get dicked like them. Even though I don’t know any of these cats personally my words are hitting cowards on the daily. It’s funny to me so when I found that song I said that’s a good way to put it. That way I don’t address the individual but the group.

Ok I think I caught up with the podcasts and the posts. You know the thing I liked about this one was that I think you are talking about looking at your hustle and seeing where you will be the most effective. I mean entertainment is not impossible but making cheese might be bigger and more socially acceptable.

I know cheese is too big for some people but I get it overall.

Oh yeah Hate comes to those who create a need to be Hated! I think you should be flattered that what you say is actually causing people to have a strong reaction. I know you wish it was more positive but I learn a lot from this site and the way you make it simple for me to understand. No outrageous concepts that I cannot follow, so thanks again Freeman.

Well yes and YES! People decide to go into fields that they think will bring them the double win aka Recognition and Money. When in reality the world is 99% about money and the cats who seek recognition work for the guys who provide recognition while milking their dumbasses for money. & YES evaluating what is the most effective in getting you money probably involves skills you already have and hate doing working for someone else. It’s easier for a guy who is a plumber to start his own plumbing business but instead the dumbass decides he wants to run a restaurant.

I know what you mean by Hate comes from giving people something to Hate but c’mon I think cats are more mad that I’m telling it for free. These idiots want to evaluate what I say because they are too much of a coward to provide their own angle. We got a lot of professional debaters/haters who feel it is their duty to combat wrong by somehow writing to the author and wanting validation. Well sorry the R&G isn’t a newspaper so I invite them all to listen to the song I put on this podcast. It’s truly how I feel especially the last 30 seconds or so.

Don’t make me the guru as I’m not in the entertainment industry. But, it seems like the only ones making big money are in the distribution game. Everyone connected to entertainment only has so many outlets to get their music out in stores or get proper marketing. So as a result even if you went independent it would be hard for you to get noticed. Everyone who is big in the game is a underboss of a bigger company. It’s not like they made their own company as everyone shops their record label around to the 3 majors for ultimate distribution.

So SONY ends up running the whole game. Real talk read the guy who owns Virgin Records and he’ll say when he distributed Janet Jackson record he made enough money to buy a airline. Now did Janet Jackson make enough money to buy a airline? So you have a bunch of no talent cats in charge of your music and getting money from every which way but the guy who makes the music only has one way to go.

Now I’m on the outside but you can spot a hustle from the outside when it’s smells bad. That’s why the whole music industry is about dicking each other so they can become lower level pimps again back to the big boss. If you want to make money you need to find a way to do it independently even if you have to go overseas to source the product. That way you get all the money.

And that’s why I said it’s a bad hustle because how does one get his music out without going through a major or through Istore and breaking bread with them. NO WAY is the WAY out of that angle.
