Independence Podcast (In the Black Series)
Reading time: 2 – 2 minutes
Accumulating money
without transferring that into wielding some kind of power is what TV is made of. In reality the accumulation of money steers the world we live in and is the motivation behind most of the problems and their solutions. I would be doing you a great disservice not to talk about how translating your hustle into owning the block will keep money coming in for life. Ultimately the accumulation of money leads to some form of independence.
Below is a Interview conducted in 1960 by WNYC Radio of Malcolm X. I decided it would be best if I got someone else to get you to understand why I advocate us running a business. There is a bigger picture in doing for self but doing for self is the first method to a overall goal. Also, special thanks to ImkeepingUp.com for posting the interview and taking note of Malcolm X assassination over 45 years ago to the day. Dangerous stuff here, Free! Might want to start laying low because after this post youre probably already on the FBI watch list (BTW, did you know Malcolm was on the FBI Terrorist List?).
But one line I would like to point out:
“If a man doesnt want to pay the price for freedom, he doesnt deserve to have freedom”
That goes for financial freedom as well. Thanks for this refreshing post, pimpin
I’m probably already there as I think was born on that list! Just wanted to make sure that people know when I’m talking about doing for self I’m not talking that it would be great crap. When you elevate doing for self to where it naturally goes you’ll see that independence is the result.
Afterall, It’s Real Talk about Real Money THE AFRICAN AMERICAN way! So while others may think it’s inappropriate it’s actually very relevant.
Freeman keep good work man I like this podcast this told the truth! Why is it that when black folks hear Malcom x speak they get nervous no dis respect Arthur. This what other’s want the black race do get nervous and dont do nothing to better themselves. We as black folk cannot worry about what others think of us. Freeman where is the other poscast about discipline I didnt hear that one yet?
I have to re-release the Discipline podcast as it came out by accident. I might have to release it under the lost tapes as it was in the queue.
Malcolm makes everyone nervous but in the big scheme it’s still a do for self angle. It’s valuable information no matter who it comes from. But, like I said this is a Black site so it’s relevant to us.
One thing I learned from this interview is how the White interviewer kept asking about advocating violence and separation when all Malcolm X was asking for was dignity and respect.
It appeared the only way Malcolm X can even get on television or radio was to have this atmosphere of promoting violence and separation just to get on and discuss having dignity and respect. So I understand the information manipulation/propaganda move and it worked.
Today, we have to be careful about people who want to shape the agenda of doing for self as a fools errand when it is our survival. Everybody else out there doing for self but when we talk about it, we are wrong. Then we got our own people who are cowards who got every excuse in the world why they can’t build an ark and don’t understand the simple fact no matter what they think or feel, that flood is coming..
It’s been a long time since I’ve actually heard Malcom speak. So it’s nice to hear what he actually said instead of an interpretation. I definitely get the message here, do for self. Maybe I’m just getting old, but for some reason I remember him being much more direct than that. Also, now it seems to me that he’s saying “do for self” within reason. But maybe he was just acknowledging the realistic constraints of the time.
@Ed – Man I was tripping off the same thing. No matter what Malcolm said she kept coming back to violence. I was laughing saying this is why you shouldn’t give interviews as it seems they are looking for something to trap you with.
That’s why you just have to move in silence and do for self and build your institutions. That’s why I offered wrapping it in the American Flag so who in their right mind can come against it. Indeed you have to be tactical to get things done because I’m sure the same kumbaya folks are going to show up and one of our own will be the snitch. The solution is to be on the up and up and not look for any publicity.
@Carl – I think the change in his voice was his maturity. He can clearly see how to get things done within the framework of the current system. All roads lead to independence but if you tell someone it will take 30 years they won’t go. If you tell them that they should start their own flower shop that’s something we can do right now. Some people can’t take the big picture as most are focused on their own survival. I was actually happy he controlled himself because that lady was nuts always circling back to violence.
