Integrity Podcast (In the Black Series)
Reading time: 1 – 2 minutes
The cornerstone of all business and money is Integrity. It’s just the way most of us come into making any kind of money is maneuvering through a minefield full of people who don’t. We have bad examples of Men and Women who translate them being a victim into victimizing others and saying they have Come Up. It’s never too late to right a wrong but if you don’t learn the lesson you won’t ever right the wrong mentality!

Amen, Rev. FreeMan! This is an excellent point you’re making here. I’m not in a transactional business, but I think integrity is a key to success. I tell tenants before they sign a lease that all they have to do is be straight with me and I’ll be straight with them. Being straight with me means paying my money in full and on time. But of course I’ve dealt with several losers who thought they were smarter than me, and ended up homeless with their belongings out on the curb. On the other hand, as a direct result of my being straight with my tenants, as in immediately handling any issue that comes up (instead of being a slum lord) I’ve had many of them refer new tenants to me. The bottom line is, you don’t have to do wrong.
Man I wasn’t trying to be preachy but as I was saying it I knew it was more of a moral discussion. Cats have a victim mentality and they go out into this game looking to victimize other people. It’s like they think if they con another cat it somehow makes up for them getting swindled earlier in life. They whole game just creates a vicious cycle where no one can be trusted and if you can’t trust a cat you go into business with it just leaves us all by oneself to build. It can be done it’s just not going to be as fast as we could make it.
Integrity does not mean stupid. Like you said it’s being straightforward and sticking to the code. That way all your business interactions know this is where the line is and if they cross it they will get punished. I run my company the same way and when cats cross the line it’s hell to pay.
Overall it’s just good business to be on the up and up about everything you do. ESPECIALLY, when dealing with money because when they find out people will come back. I just think cats haven’t experienced it or seen it but like the cat who went postal you can dick 999 people but number 1000 might be a killer. And, you have no way of knowing if it’s going to be your 1st customer who is the killer so why even start off down the road to deceive.
Most cats when they start off come from a I got to get mines mentality and since they haven’t built anything they don’t understand the value of being straight up with people. So they are always looking for a way to catch someone slipping and capitalize on it like a Vulture.
I’m saying just do you and be straight up and you won’t have to worry about vultures. No one can touch the man who does for himself. So integrity is not that hard for someone who builds with the full knowledge that no one can stop him anyway. So cheating immediately gets taken off of the table.
In business, as in life, taking the right path will take you a long way. Many people lose sight of that once the money starts coming in, but without integrity, the money won’t last long. Great piece.
Freeman keep up the good work! You’re right their is something wrong. Your the only African American that I Hear talk about all of this good info about starting you’re own business etc. You have giving me such positive way of thinking about getting my own business started faster. Again Thanks.
@Trueman – Especially when you believe you have to fight everyone to get to the top. I think the less you start off with the more you think people are keeping you down and conning you without knowing. God knows once I figured the game out I was ready to kill people but alas I calmed down and decided to make sure I controlled everything I touched. That alone made me calm way down and actually start telling people how to get it for themselves.
Now if I didn’t find a way to take care of myself on my own then I think my mentality would be different. I don’t know if I would have ever gotten out of the mentality to take what can be taken. It’s a lesson to learn for sure but I wanted to get cats on the right road when they start and drop all the anger and retaliation. I decided to build up a fortress of my own and allow in who I want when it comes to chips as I still haven’t fully decided to play the game the way everyone else is. I’m not perfect but with money you don’t have to be you just have to deliver.
@Eman – Well glad to see my aggressive thoughts didn’t fall on deaf ears. I guess you have to live it to tell it so you can teach it so people won’t repeat it.
This is probably one of the best podcast and most essential.
The easiest way to get rich is to have integrity and do the right thing. People would be surprised at how easy it is to be successful and gain wealth if they just did the right thing all the time and treat their customers right.
It is extremely hard to be a knucklehead, wanting to get over on people and even worst, screw over one own customers who are coming out of their pockets to do business with a person! These type of people always got to start over with a new hustle or scheme and they always broke and down and out and don’t know why…
This is what the hood teaches everybody who grew up in the hood the hard way. I knew a cat who spent his life robbing drug dealers, snatching chains and earrings off sistas on the bus like he was the ultimate badass. I was walking home and saw him on the payphone and someone walked calmly up to him and blew the back of his head off. I actually water hosed the pink stuff into the sewer so the kids don’t see it..
Playing with people money is like playing with people emotions…
Like I said you can get away with it for so long before someone shows up for retribution. It’s easily avoidable but people for some reason think they are smarter than a gun!
The part I don’t get is getting over on your own customers. I mean you don’t got to compliment them but DAMN how about get the transaction over with fast. I know people who run companies right now who make up magical fees for their services. In fact when people sign up with my company I often have to explain those fees don’t make any sense. They usually get mad for getting conned all these years.
I really hope people don’t have to die over it but how about just being fair about what you charge people. At the end of the day you won’t have any enemies and you’ll have peace of mind that you are who you say you are. I know it sounds corny and too religious but you reap what you sow and the grim reaper will sow you up in a body bag over this money!
