Displacement

Reading time: 3 – 5 minutes

We can all sit here and watch the end come slowly or we can fight and if we lose we lose fighting. This recession has displaced a lot of people and many just like you are wondering when it’s going to end. A lot of folks are holding on to what they get from unemployment, from family members or from their own small hustle. I know the world looks bleak and they keep talking about it’s over or there are green chutes but you don’t see them and neither do I!

So let’s get our mind right! Positive talk and mantras are not enough to deal with 10 below and you are the mail man. Many make a mistake of thinking if they ignore the situation and focus on positive things it will somehow yield a different result. WRONG!

First we have to assess the situation and I mean all of the situation. In a regular economy most ideas need great marketing but in this economy your good idea has to be weighed against people’s needs. In a regular economy head hunters, monster.com and a personal hookup might be all you need but in this economy it might take a bit more. In a regular economy people are upbeat and fun but in this economy people are trying to smile through hanging on and every other business is closed. You’d better snap out of thinking we will return to when you had a Escalade and a house you couldn’t afford.

Second we have to retool. I myself have started to complete skills that I put on the shelf over 10 years ago. I have agreed to ideas for small chips that I wouldn’t have done in the past. I have taken money out of CD’s and put it to work in the stock market. I have made plans this year to go back into my office full time and act like I was starting from scratch. In fact I have told myself to bring out all the notes from when I started the company when anything and everything was worth pursuing. It’s time to get back to basics and remember what was valued pre-recession.

Finally we have to MOVE.  Take action and stop hoping that someone notices your resume on Monster. Get enrolled in school and get in class. Start the business that you think makes small chips. Get your reading on so you can pick up new skills and angles by cats who were successful in the past. Extend yourself into new ventures and angles that you might have hated in the past. Knock door to door with your hustle because people aren’t coming out of their house looking to spend their money.

The world as you know it has changed because everyone has been displaced.  The solution is to hurry up and change your thinking to adapt to the terrain as we see it, not as we hope it will return to be.  So what is my SOLUTION!

The only profitable companies are those that provide staples. Staples can best be seen as what those who have little to no money buy. These products and companies will thrive as the generic Cheerios is now a bigger Value!  You still have great ideas and you still are employable but, you have to change your mind to this new reality ASAP. There’s money to made but a hell of a lot more competition, depressed people, desperate people and little to know money from the bank to rekindle the flame! It’s the age of the Self Starter and for those Who do for Self!

It is what it is and we have to adjust in a hurry. People are going to miss out on all the opportunities waiting for the sun to come back up. The economy will never be the same, they fired all the managers, all the businesses have become lean, the banks aren’t lending money, people have bankruptcies on their credit and the jobs that left aren’t coming back.

So cats have to wake up to the New World and hustle with what we see. Prices on infomericals have dropped to 10 bucks instead of 19.99. Everyone has made the adjustment except the dummies sitting on the sideline saying their house will return back to normal. What’s gone is gone and we need to move on!
