A lot of people are willing to do anything to be on TV. You see people turn on their family, find out they are the babies father, eat weird food, and sing off key. You see people dance, fight, play in game shows, starve themselves on islands, and stay in houses with people who will betray them. Most people say they do it out of fun and why not. In the end all they have is video tape and memories.
Ignorance plays on the Vanity in most people and their wanting to be noticed. If you put a camera in front of most Suckers they will answer any off key question and even follow you around for the opportunity. If you build enough Suckers up they will do anything just to be captured. They will sign away all the rights, all the revenue, everything and will just ask you in the end what day will it be on.
The tragedy in all of this is all these people will just use your likeness to bring in all kinds of money in advertising. All the Suckers on the gameshows, all the suckers on Survivor, all the Suckers on American Idol are used by the shows for free to sell advertising when you watch the show. What do the Suckers get out of it? Nothing at all not even a parting gift. The Sucker doesn’t realize they are contributing to make a million dollars in revenue and they the main actor in these shows get nothing but a chance to be on TV. A Suckers reward is a dream while a Hustlers reward is the money.
BottomLine: Don’t get Hustled by your own Ignorance, there is no Reward.

you are so right….how about the atl housewives which i think is the most popular location of the show are getting NOTHING from the show’s syndication. so bravo will continue to make money off these fools while they bust their behinds trying to hosting parties and things like that just to make a buck. to make it worse, from what i hear they all are damn near broke. perfect example of yesterday’s post. smh
See that TV is a mofo because people think oohhh it’s a opportunity to get noticed. Then they launch She by Sheree and say oohhh I made 100,000 sales while if they would’ve negotiated for part of the syndication they would have that in one month.
People don’t understand money! Instead they go on Real World and someone sponsors a mansion for them to stay in and get a job. Then they have fun millions watch and millions are made but all they get is memories and popularity.

It’s just the common man’s ignorance. It’s like when you fill out those survey’s and they give you a t-shirt but then they sell all these surveys to companies and create marketing lists from it. You have to realize some people just think bigger and we have to get up to that kind of thinking so we can capitalize on opportunities.
It’s like a little kid who gets a popsicle from mowing the lawn. Little does he/she know that if they did that for anyone else they can buy 3 boxes of popsicles. It’s the kids lack of understanding of money that makes them happy to have a lick of something he could have had 300 of!
I wouldn’t say it’s the White man as much anymore because the two examples I had in mind were our own people.
The first thing I thought of when reading this article was BET Comic View who used to pay comedians only $100 to appear on a 30-minute show marketed to millions. BET attitude was “we doing you a favor by putting you on!” and these comedians sold themselves out. I really don’t know any comedian that blew up from getting a shot on BET Comic View.
The second example is this whole Black “blog award” garbage running the Internet people be trying to participate in. It does nothing but demonstrate who is about putting on an image in this blogging game. I can understand if they giving away $25K or something like that, but they ain’t giving anything noteworthy to the winner but some kind of bragging rights.
The problem with these TV suckers is they sold themselves out to their potential customers. Customers want to see people do their own thing to come up and they respect that brand. No one respects the brand of some cat who looking to get put on TV.
These people still think we still living in the Ed Sullivan Show or Apollo era…
Any person who is about their money no matter the color has this game down cold. Whether it be in giving you a raise based on inflation or taping you on the street and making you sign releases. The game is tough when the potential for celebrity is involved.
Bob Johnson is definitely a example on how he ran BET. But you can’t knock him because they didn’t have to accept it. He just happen to be in control of the only medium that would allow these comics that kind of break. He realized his power very early when he made BET. He knew he had the Black community on lock and no matter what anyone said you were going to watch his channel.
I don’t get the Blog award. Do mofos just hand them out as they make up ish? I got a couple here and there but I didn’t know what they symbolized. I’d rather someone just reference what I wrote and that’s good enough recognition for me.
Well reality TV is about finding regular people who operate differently. No scripts, no sets just action. But even that game is getting messed up because people are getting out of pocket for the sake of ratings. I always laugh thinking some producer is telling the women on Real housewives to argue over stupid ish!
You can get just about anyone to show their ass for money or the promise of future money. It’s just like pimpin’; put them out for the world to see, let them perform their service, rake in the big cash, break the ho off a little piece and make them believe like they’ve made it.
I didn’t want to use pimpin but I was thinking about using that as the example. TV is better and more PG! People want excitement and fame way more than money.
I wish I’d invented “Girls Gone Wild” – those girls show their tiddies for a t-shirt while the inventor gets paid millions.
That’s a great example as I was thinking about something to really describe it. Tiddies bouncing on beds with wife beater T-shirts and nothing but a wild night to remember. Then they sign their life away and millions more sign up while this guy flys on G4′s!
