Quiet Money – There comes a time when you rather not be noticed at all.
Hustle’s end product is money and a lot of it. For all the good it brings in money there is a equal amount of bad that comes with it. Of course you already know Envy, Jealousy, and just pure Hate. Could there be more?
When you offer advice from this point on people will think you are a know it all. When you offer help to anyone that you may have known in the past they will think you are talking down to them. If your a high profile person when you bump into someone they might sue you. People will want to start fights with you and provoke you because they see you as a payday. Women will see you as their meal ticket and scam you. People will think you should pay for everything because you can afford it. People will call you cheap because you don’t waste money. Family members will start making plans with your money. Friends will try to control their jealousy but sooner or later they just won’t want to be around you. People will plot to rob you and probably kill you. After all of this you are just left alone, no friends, paranoid, but you’ll have money in your pocket.
You ever seen the guy who owns Sony? You ever seen the guy who owns one of the buildings in your downtown? They have way more money than most people and if they walked right by you at lunch you would think there’s a corny looking guy. They don’t dress like they have a lot of money, they don’t drive fancy cars into work, they don’t even want any attention. If you run into them they don’t talk about money, in fact they try their best to maintain they are just a regular person.
Sorry to tell you but in order to keep everyone and everything around you, you have to be quiet about your money. You can’t talk about too much of anything with people who aren’t Hustling. You need to find all the normal things people like such as basketball, football, kids, weather, food, dance, anything but money. You need to wear money around money. You need to have two different kind of clothes, one for stepping out and the other for everyday. It is rare to find the person that is ok with you making more money than them.
Bottom Line: Be Quiet about your money as this is done for your own protection!

this is so on point. the majority of ppl in this world do not like to see others doing better than them.
i remember when i took this job, i lied to my cousin and said i was layed off from my other job and had to take a pay cut just so she wouldn’t hate on me like she had so many times in the past. it’s sad cuz i always gave her props for whateva she did.
I think you’re talking about serious money here. But just to show you how twisted people really are, I know for a fact that this post applies just the same to people that make $40K a year. That same ole crab in a barrel mentality is the thing that’s keeping the Black community down.
@Keish – People can take a raise or a promotion or two but they can’t take when you make way more money than them. The problem is when you make a lot more money you are eager and happy to explain game to others so they can get money too. You think you are doing the right thing by sharing what you know but sooner or later you’ll find out people will just not like you for talking about how you got money.
You just have to recognize that people wish you well but just don’t wish you better than them. Then you have to cut your conversation about what you do with your money. The more money you have the more you got to shut up and dress like you don’t have any to protect yourself from the predators and the jealous!
@Carl – We always use crab in the barrel but I know white people who hate you too. Maybe we see it more since we interact with each other more but the hate that money produces is color blind. Our interactions just seem to be more harsh because we are coming from the bottom up but I am sure in middle class USA they shun cats or talk behind their back because a cat is moving up.
That’s not news. White people hating me is a known quantity. Black people hating on me and obstructing my progress, remains a known but still unexpected quantity. Crab in a barrel actually applies to everyone in a lowered economic position that chooses to impede the progress of others in that same position. Yes that has always crossed racial lines. But to me, white hate is not relevant since that is not the team I’m on and there they are naturally adversaries. But by contrast, Blacks trying to impede my progress out of jealousy is a serious concern.
@Carl – Well all you have to do is be quiet and humble about your chips and most Black people will not know what you are doing either. If you wear value instead of flash, if you drive comfort instead of stunning, if you celebrate your accomplishments quietly instead of throwing a independence part no one will notice you at all.
Our crabs in a barrel are easily avoidable because they only see money in small terms. They see it as putting your kid in a private school instead of you putting your kid on the deed of the house! We can side step them most of the time!
I had a Quiet Money experience this week and what I discovered is that the Money is only part of the equation the other part is Time saved.
I had to pick up some documents for a client and when I got ready to pay for copies I discoved that they needed EXACT change. I was on the 22nd Floor and I would had to go all the way down to below the lobby entrance to get the cafateria to get change. To my surprise a Black Gentleman that overheard what the clerk said to me gave me the money for the documents. I needed EXACT change and he was a nickle short, then he proceeded to ask the clerk if she had the nickle for me.
This Man quietly and humbly saw how valuable my TIME was because he saw that I had the Money to pay for the documents myself. I say it is not about Money sometimes because the copies were only $1.50, but this Man saved me TIME, which was more valuable!
Like you mentioned on a previous post about you having the time to walk on hte beach at 11am I so understand what you mean because TIME is the other ingredient that Quiet Money brings.
Just a side note: Men are not the only ones who have to watch out for Gold Diggers. There are many Ladies out here on their Grind and making the chips do what they do. But we too have to know when to be Plain Jane or be Foxy Brown!
Time is very important and that’s why wealthy people become more wealthy because they have time to ponder, plan and execute!
I agree women have to watch out because there are a lot of Kings of Nothing running the finances of the Queens of Something. There are tons of women who are trying to balance money and a Man’s ego in their relationship that actually put their mates low self-esteem into their equation on how big they should be and how fast they should get it!
I have an elderly neighbor who was having problems givng his great nephew advice concerning money.
Everytime he (the old school cat) would try to explain that his nephew needed to limit his spending on good that depreciate – the nephew would pull out a wad of cash.
One day, I was playing pool at the old school cat’s house when his flashy nephew walked in and dismissed his uncles advice with his usual wad of cash.
When I explained that if someone can see everything you own – you really don’t own much of anything.
His uncle’s unseen (but fully paid-for) homes, farm, shopping center and carwashes were more valuable than his little wad of cash, new car and Polo gear.
And if the nephew kept spending money instead of building assets, he would never understand the difference.
Well TV is more powerful than experience and wisdom. I have to school my own nephew and tell him the people who don’t have to work at all most likely make more money than the guy who on the top floor of any building. TV gives everyone the impression that money is in what you own instead of in the ability to do nothing and still survive.
I don’t know how you teach that to a youngin besides showing them how much money you make. I do this with my nephew so he knows money is in what you can do whenever you want not showing other people you have a nice suit and dress nice on the way to working for someone else.
Money or Fame UBJ — that’s what you are dealing with here. They’d rather have people think they are wealthy instead of actually having it!
